How to choose the right devices treatment for you
Our device-based treatments use light or radiofrequency energy rather than needles, and each is built for a different target – unwanted hair, pigment sitting in the skin, or the skin's own collagen.
- Removing unwanted hair: Laser Hair Removal
- Improving texture, scarring, pores and skin tightness: Fractional Laser, Fractional RF Skin Tightening, Carbon Laser Peel
- Treating pigmentation, sun spots and tattoo ink: Nd:YAG Laser Treatment, Q-Switched Laser, Tattoo Removal Laser
Can device treatments be combined with injectables?
Yes – they're often used alongside skin treatments rather than instead of them, for example Fractional RF for tightening paired with dermal filler for volume, or Laser Hair Removal running as its own separate course alongside any other treatment plan. Device sessions are usually kept on their own appointment day, spaced away from active peels or injectables, so the skin only handles one significant treatment at a time.
A note on skin tone (important in the Maldives' sun)
Not every laser is equally safe on every skin tone, and this matters more here than in cooler, less sun-exposed climates. Nd:YAG and Q-Switched wavelengths are generally the safer choice for deeper, more melanin-rich or sun-tanned skin, carrying a lower risk of pigment change than some other devices. Dr. Alaa checks your skin type and recent sun exposure before recommending any device treatment, and will tell you plainly – including asking you to wait – if a treatment isn't the right fit for your skin right now.
Guide FAQ
Is laser safe on tanned or dark skin?
It depends on the specific device and wavelength – Nd:YAG and Q-Switched lasers are generally considered safer options for deeper or tanned skin. Dr. Alaa assesses your skin tone and recent sun exposure before recommending which device, if any, is appropriate.
How many sessions do device treatments usually take?
Laser hair removal typically needs a course of six to eight sessions for lasting reduction, since it only affects hair in its active growth phase. Resurfacing and tightening devices such as Fractional Laser, Fractional RF and Carbon Laser Peel are usually done as a course of three to six sessions a few weeks apart.
Is there downtime?
It varies by device: Carbon Laser Peel and Laser Hair Removal have essentially no downtime, while Fractional Laser and Fractional RF can leave mild redness or swelling for a day or two. Each individual guide below has the specific downtime for that device.
Can device treatments remove old tattoos safely?
Yes – Tattoo Removal Laser is built specifically for that, working gradually over multiple sessions as the body clears the broken-down ink, with Q-Switched sometimes used as an alternative depending on the ink's colour and depth.
