Tear Trough Filler: FDA Approves a New Under-Eye Gel

The US Food and Drug Administration has approved a new tear trough filler developed specifically for the delicate under-eye area. The product, RHA Redensity Eye, is a hyaluronic acid gel cleared for correcting moderate to severe hollowing beneath the eyes in adults aged 22 and over. For anyone considering under-eye treatment, it is an encouraging sign that this tricky area is getting purpose-built options rather than fillers borrowed from other parts of the face.
What the FDA approved
Revance and Teoxane announced the approval on 20 August 2026. RHA Redensity Eye is part of the Teoxane RHA Collection and is designed for the infraorbital region – the area of hollowing that can appear as tired-looking shadows under the eyes. Its makers describe a soft, stretchable formulation intended to move naturally with a region that is constantly in motion when we blink, smile and speak.
What the evidence shows
The approval was supported by a 52-week US study that was randomised, evaluator-blinded and included a no-treatment control group. At three months, 93 per cent of patients showed an aesthetic improvement, and results lasted up to 12 months without touch-ups. The company reported a favourable safety profile, with no serious treatment-related events and no cases of vascular occlusion during the trial.

What a new tear trough filler means for you
This is a genuine step forward, but a few honest caveats matter. A US approval does not mean the product is available everywhere, and it may not yet be on the shelf here in the Maldives. The under-eye area is also one of the most technically demanding to treat, so results depend far more on careful assessment and an experienced injector than on any single brand. Not everyone with under-eye shadows is a filler candidate either; pigmentation and thin skin can create similar shadows that filler will not fix.

Frequently asked questions
Is the newly approved under-eye gel available at the clinic?
We keep track of newly approved products and introduce them once there is enough real-world safety data and a clear fit for our patients. Message us on WhatsApp to ask about current options.
How is tear trough filler different from cheek filler?
Tear trough filler targets the thin, delicate under-eye hollow specifically, using a softer product and a more cautious technique than filler used for cheek volume.
What are the risks of tear trough filler?
The under-eye area is one of the more technically demanding filler sites, with a risk of visible bluish discolouration or lumping if placed incorrectly, which is why careful assessment matters.
